Summary

Machine-generated summary

This research and development contract concerns a study on the safety, riding behaviour and space requirements of cycling on downhill and uphill road sections. Current German design rules do not provide planners with adequate guidance for designing safe and attractive cycle routes on gradients, although downhill sections carry a higher accident risk for cyclists, with gradients reported as a characteristic in around 17 percent of single bicycle accidents with personal injury in urban areas and around 39 percent outside built-up areas. The research should examine how gradient, gradient length and resulting cycling speeds affect traffic safety, alignment parameters, compatibility with pedestrians, sensitivity to uneven surfaces, required stopping sight distances, riding stability and edge markings, leading to robust recommendations for the design rules.

Description

Expected award price

likely award for this notice, from its published estimate of €231,092
€228,782 to €231,092

This buyer's comparable awards in this sector came in at a median of 99% of their published estimate, half of them between 99% and 100%, based on 8 awards of the last 3 years.

Each award is compared with the estimate of the same lots, framework agreements excluded. A published estimate may include options and renewals, so an award under it is not always a discount.
