The Food Standards Agency awarded a contract for EU harmonised surveillance of antimicrobial resistance E. coli and Salmonella in fresh beef and pork meat on retail sale in the UK in 2027. The work covers microbiological food safety research on pathogenic microorganisms throughout the food chain, supporting the FSA objective of reducing foodborne disease. The contract is split into two lots: Lot 1 covers survey design, sample collection at retail and transportation to the testing laboratory; Lot 2 covers microbiological testing, data analysis, reporting and archiving of recovered bacteria and their AMR profile. The contract was awarded to the UK Health Security Agency on 27 August 2026.
