The district of Emmendingen (Germany) intends to award a service concession for the planning, construction and operation of an NGA broadband network, combined with so-called economic gap funding. The goal is to provide universal NGA coverage, giving 746 still underserved address points a symmetric data rate of at least 1 Gbit/s at peak load times. Funding amounts are to be passed on to the contracted telecommunications company as investment aid under EU state aid law, plus co-financing by the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
