Republika Hrvatska treba, sukladno svojim potrebama, uspostaviti vlastite BIM smjernice i standarde kako bi osigurala dosljednost i kvalitetu u svim projektima. Razvojem i implementacijom standarda te definiranjem smjernica uvodi se interoperabilnost, pojednostavljuje komunikacija i smanjuju pogreške tijekom izvršenja projekata. Prilagođavanje ovih standarda specifičnim potrebama i ciljevima RH ključno je za uspješnu implementaciju BIM-a. Smjernice trebaju dati odgovore kako će se BIM integrirati u postojeće tijekove rada, tehnologije i procese te definirati standarde i pravila. BIM standardi trebaju specificirati konvencije imenovanja, protokole za razmjenu podataka i pravila za modeliranje. Plan implementacije treba pružiti detaljan vremenski plan uvođenja BIM-a za različite vrste i faze projekta. Fazni pristup implementaciji pomaže postupnom i sustavnom uvođenju BIM-a na sve potrebne razine. Stanje implementacije BIM-a u državama EU direktno ovisi o strateškim ciljevima svake države, spremnosti na digitalnu tranziciju, pripremljenosti državnog, javnog i privatnog sektora, zakonodavnog okvira ali i pripremljenosti sveučilišne zajednice. Predmet nabave je usluga izrade nacionalnih smjernica za implementaciju informacijskog modeliranja građevina / gradnje (BIM) s ciljem uvođenja BIM-a u procese prostornog uređenja i gradnje. Polazište ovog projekta je sveobuhvatnim smjernicama s razrađenim pristupom, planom i naputcima učinkovito definirati implementaciju BIM-a na nacionalnoj razini. Izradom smjernica dobiti će se kvalitetna podloga za izmjenu zakonske i podzakonske regulative, a dionicima će se pružiti lakše usvajanje BIM tehnologije. Usvajanje BIM tehnologije u AEC (eng. Architecture, Engineering and Construction) sektoru u posljednjih nekoliko godina značajno je napredovalo. Projektni timovi koriste BIM 3D digitalne modele za suradnju na projektu, koja im osigurava dosljedne i precizne podatke o projektu bez obzira na to koliko se puta projekt mijenja ili tko ga mijenja (inženjer, arhitekt ili vlasnika zgrade odnosno infrastrukture).
