Description

ECMWF, as the Entrusted Entity for the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), entered into contract for development activities to assess and improve the treatment of the stratosphere in climate reanalyses. The primary objective of the Framework Agreement is to contribute to improving the representation of the upper stratosphere and mesosphere in the ECMWF’s Integrated Forecasting System (IFS). The contract will deliver to ECMWF, as part of WP1, upper atmospheric historical and modern datasets, both in situ and satellitebased. The testing and improving of the representation of the IFS upper atmosphere will be performed both for temperature (WP2, WP4) and also for water vapour (WP3 and WP5) using the recent IFS cycle 50R1 that includes among its additions the capability of ingesting L2 limb H2O profiles. Tests will be performed using data collated in WP1.
