Das frühere Garteninstitutsgebäude und später zur Allgemeinbildenden Schule "Hans Settegast" umgebaute Bestandsgebäude in Bad Köstritz, Werner-Sylten-Straße 14, hat eine rechteckige Grundform, 4-geschossig, mit flach geneigtem Satteldach (Nagelbinder) und ist auf seiner gesamten Länge von ca. 32,00 m unterkellert. Das Bauwerk wurde 1903 errichtet, im Jahr 1966 zur allgemeinbildenden Schule umgebaut und ab 1990 als Regelschule genutzt. Durch das Hochwasser im Jahr 2013 wurde der gesamte Kellerbereich geflutet. Bei dem Gebäude handelt es sich um einen Sonderbau, der in die Gebäudeklasse 5 einzustufen ist. Die geplante Sanierung und Erweiterung der Regelschule „Hans Settegast“ in Bad Köstritz ist aufgrund des "Sanierungsstaus" in den letzten Jahren notwendig. Insbesondere im Hinblick auf Brandschutz und Barrierefreiheit besteht Handlungsbedarf.“ Durch einen geplanten Anbau werden die bestehenden Kapazitäten erweitert und ein innovatives Schulkonzept umgesetzt. Die Arbeiten umfassen die Sanierung des Bestandsgebäudes (Elektro, Heizung, Sanitär, Bodenbelags- und Malerarbeiten, Brandschutz, Barrierefreiheit) und die Errichtung eines modernen Anbaus.
