The municipality of Beckingen, Germany, intends to award a concession contract to a telecommunications company for the construction and operation of gigabit networks and the provision of end-customer services in underserved local areas (grey areas). The aim is to provide comprehensive access to gigabit networks and to strengthen the local economy. Funding is sought under the federal Gigabit Guideline 2.0 programme with co-financing from the Saarland, granted as an investment subsidy covering the economic gap, i.e. the difference between the present value of revenues and the present value of network construction and operating costs.
