The construction plans are complete and the water permit is legally valid. The project connects Lake Pien-Saimaa and Lake Suur-Saimaa between Umianlampi and Kutilanlahti, aiming to improve water quality in Pien-Saimaa, facilitate waterborne traffic in southern Saimaa and support businesses such as cruise operations and nature tourism. The works include an 11 km local boat fairway (2.4 m depth), excavated canal sections (400 m + 100 m), canal structures at Umianlampi, two pumping stations (one at the canal, one at Kopinsalmi), a flow opening at Kaekelantaipale of about 100 m, and a 126 m bridge with 18.5 m clearance including road arrangements.
