The Western Ligurian Port System Authority is procuring a pilot service to test a 'Port cargo buffer', an operational model for regulating and improving the flow of intermodal transport units (UTIs) entering and leaving ports. The service will use suitably equipped, organised and managed areas outside the port to absorb peaks in freight traffic and rationalise loading and unloading transit times. The aim is to relieve congestion in the port infrastructure of the Western Ligurian Port System Authority's nodes, in the port and hinterland area of Genoa.
