Με το υπόψη έργο θα κατασκευαστεί υποτμήμα του τμήματος Ξάνθη- Σμίνθη, του Κάθετου Άξονα 70 «Ξάνθη - Εχίνος - Ελληνοβουλγαρικά Σύνορα», που συνδέει την Εγνατία Οδό με τα Ελληνοβουλγαρικά σύνορα, μήκους περίπου 600μ, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει τη γέφυρα Γ3 και παρακείμενες συνδέσεις. Το έργο περιλαμβάνει την πλήρη κατασκευή της αρτηρίας με διατομή γ2 (7,5/10,5m), σύμφωνα με τη Διακρατική Συμφωνία Ελλάδας - Βουλγαρίας, και η ταχύτητα μελέτης στο τμήμα αυτό είναι 60 km/h λόγω του ορεινού αναγλύφου.
