Summary

Machine-generated summary

EPFL intends to acquire a plasma etching system (Reactive Ion Etching, RIE) for its Center of MicroNanoTechnology (CMi), to serve as a platform for etching metals. The system must handle both square photomasks and standard wafers in various sizes. CMi is a user-oriented micro- and nanofabrication facility offering all EPFL faculties central access to cleanroom capacity and is also open to local industry, with more than 650 active users annually. The facility supports top-level research, in particular structuring of metal layers on lithographic masks, reticles and wafers. Evaluation considers etch quality, avoidance of cross-contamination between materials, ease of use for training new users, versatility of process control, proven robustness in a cleanroom research environment, and the provider's responsiveness and proximity for comprehensive technical and process support.
