Description

Auf dem neu zu beschaffenden High Performance Computing (HPC)-Cluster sollen simulationsbasierte digitale Zwillinge mit sehr hohem Rechenaufwand betrieben werden. Vollständig gekoppelte Gießprozesssimulationen werden typischerweise über mehrere Tage auf mehr als 100 CPU-Kernen ausgeführt. Vergleichbare Anforderungen bestehen für Simulationen entlang der gesamten Schmiederoute. Darüber hinaus kommen KI-Anwendungen sowie moderne Simulationssoftware zum Einsatz, die auf GPU-basierten Architekturen deutlich effizienter ausgeführt werden können. Die Ergebnisse der Simulationen werden in einem Datenmanagementsystem mit Prozessdaten verknüpft und für nachgelagerte Analysen dauerhaft gespeichert. Das neue Rechensystem muss daher mindestens die Rechenleistung des bestehenden Clusters mit derzeit ca. 900 CPUs (Intel Xeon Gold 6132 @ 2,60 GHz) erreichen, sollte diese möglichst deutlich übertreffen und zusätzlich über mehrere GPUs verfügen. Eine effiziente Parallelisierung der Rechenlast auf den CPUs ist zwingend erforderlich. Für das Datenmanagementsystem wird ein Speicher mit einer Mindestkapazität von 500 TB benötigt. Ein größerer Speicher ist sehr erwünscht. Der HPC-Cluster wird zunächst im bestehenden Rechnerraum von Access in der Intzestraße installiert und soll im Jahr 2028 in das neue PLCA-Gebäude am Forschungsflugplatz Merzbrück umziehen. Am Standort Intzestraße ist das vorhandene wassergekühlte Rack-System zu nutzen. Die verfügbare elektrische Anschlussleistung ist dort auf maximal 28 kVA begrenzt.
