Geplant ist der Umbau und die Sanierung des ehemaligen Kasernengebäudes 4004 zu einem Familienzentrum mit Integration eines Jugendzentrums und Räumen für die Gemeinwesenarbeit sowie die Gestaltung neuer Freianlagen im Außenbereich. Das Gebäude ist Teil des Bildungscampus der Stadt Darmstadt. Der Bildungscampus wird in Zukunft aus vier Gebäuden bestehen: aus dem Familienzentrum im Süden, dem ehemaligen Kasernengebäude 4001 (zukünftige Nutzung unbekannt) im Westen sowie den Neubauten der Kita Ludwigshöhviertel und der Grundschule Ludwigshöhviertel. Das ehemalige Kasernengebäude 4004 wird kernsaniert und umfasst ein Keller- und drei Obergeschossen. Zentral im Gebäude wird eine Aufzugsanlage mit 4 Haltestellen installiert. Damit wird eine barrierefreie Erschließung geschaffen.
