Die Stadt Oelde beabsichtigt, für den Umbau und die Erweiterung der Albert-Schweitzer-Schule die Holzbau- und Fassadenarbeiten im Rahmen eines offenen Verfahrens zu beauftragen. Das zweigeschossige Schulgebäude mit Unterkellerung wurde 1956 als einhüftige Flurschule in Massivbauweise errichtet, ein Zwischenbau mit Erschließungstrakt 2007. Das Schulgelände ist ringsherum durch Stabgitterzaunelemente und Bauzaunelemente eingezäunt. Das Schulgebäude liegt zurückgesetzt an der öffentlichen Straße "Zur Axt" und ist über eine Zu-fahrt in Form eines Wendehammers erschlossen. Ausschließlich für den Baubetrieb wird durch die Baustelleneinrichtung die Zufahrtsrichtung im Wendekreis temporär geändert. Im Zuge der Umbaumaßnahme wird entlang der Längsachse (Nordwesten) ein Erweiterungsbau in reiner Holzbauweise (Holzrahmenbau, Holzbalkendecken) angebaut. Das zwei-geschossige Bestandsgebäude aus zweischaligem Mauerwerk (Hochlochziegel, NF) steht frei auf dem Schulgrundstück und ist anteilig unterkellert. Der Bestand hat eine Gesamtlänge von ca. 54,17 m (Hauptkörper) zuzüglich ca. 15,44 m (Kopfteil) sowie eine durchgehende Breite von ca. 10,49 m. Die Erweiterungsmaßnahme verwandelt die lange Flurschule in eine offene Lernlandschaft. Die Gebäudebreite erweitert sich auf ca. 21,32 m. Durch eine verbindende neue Holzfassade über Bestand und Anbau wird das neue Gesamtvolumen als Einheit gestärkt. Das vorhandene Satteldach wird mit dem Anbau um ein Pultdach ergänzt.
