Summary

Machine-generated summary

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) awarded a contract for the supply and operational installation of a Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) system, including an interrogator and measurement computer, plus installation, integration, commissioning, maintenance and training. The system detects seismic waves as strain changes over existing fibre optic cables using laser measurements of Rayleigh backscatter effects and will be integrated into the existing earthquake monitoring network. It will be permanently deployed at the German nuclear test ban station GERESS after a trial phase at other sites. The contract was awarded to Alcatel Submarine Networks SAS for EUR 163,560.
