Die Universitätsmedizin der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz plant auf ihrem südwestlichen Gelände den Neubau eines Forschungs- und Laborgebäudes für das Helmholtz Instituts für translationale Onkologie und Krebsimmuntherapie. Der Neubau HI-TRON bildet den Schlussstein der bereits fertiggestellten Reihe modularer Gebäude (PKZI/KTI/NIC) am Kilian Weg, im Südwesten des Geländes der Universitätsmedizin Mainz. Das Gebäude besteht aus einem rechteckigen Massivbau mit Untergeschoss, Erdgeschoss, 4 Obergeschossen und einer Technikzentrale im Dachgeschoss (5. Obergeschoss). In den Geschossen 1-4 wird der Neubau mit einem geschlossenen, verglasten Brückenbauwerk an den Bestand angeschlossen. Die Fassade besteht aus einer Lochfassade mit Einzelfenstern sowie vereinzelten PR-Fassaden im Eingang und Brückenbereich. Die Hülle wird mit einem WDVS-System gedämmt. Die Technikzentralen befinden sich im UG sowie im OG 5 als Dachgeschoss sowie in einem außenliegenden, frei bewitterten Technikhof.
