Als vorbereitende Maßnahme für den Ersatzneubau der Kleinen Schleuse in Kiel soll in den Vorhäfen der sogenannten "Kleinen Schleuse", fördeseitig und binnenseitig, eine tiefenunbegrenzte Kampfmittelfreiheit hergestellt werden. Die Flächen wurden in 5 Räumfelder unterteilt. Die Räumfelder aus Los 1 (binnenseitig) und die Räumfelder aus Los 2 (fördeseitig) werden durch die Kleine Schleuse voneinander getrennt. Größ-tenteils handelt es sich um Wasserflächen, aber auch um Böschungen oberhalb und unterhalb der Wasserlinie und in kleinem Maße auch um Landflächen. Die Wassertiefen der wasserseitigen Räumfelder betragen zwischen 0 und 11 m. Die Maßnahme umfasst die Kampfmittelsondierung und -räumung in den Vorhäfen der Kleinen Schleusen und in den noch nicht untersuchten Böschungsbereichen, sowie die Wasserfläche für einen neuen Fähranleger. Es werden Bohrloch- und Oberflächensondierungen an Land und in Wasser bis in eine Wassertiefe von ca. 4 m durchgeführt sowie eine Hindernisberäumung mittels Siebung. Auf der gesamten Fläche werden Einzelpunkträumung durch ferngesteuertes Gerät und/oder Taucher in einer Wassertiefe bis ca. 10 m durchgeführt. Die Gesamtfläche beträgt ca. 12,4 ha und werden in 2 Lose aufgeteilt.
