Die Stiftung Bergwerk Rammelsberg, Altstadt von Goslar und Oberharzer Wasserwirtschaft", kurz Stiftung UNESCO-Welterbe im Harz ist verantwortlich für die Förderung, Vermittlung, Erhaltung und Koordination des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes im Westharz und wurde 2012 auf Initiative des Auftraggebers gegründet. Um die Wirksamkeit, Effizienz und Transparenz der operativen Arbeit zu erhöhen und die Stiftung im Einklang mit ihren Gesellschaftern zukunftsfähig aufzustellen soll eine umfassende Umorganisation und strategische Neuausrichtung erfolgen. Unter Berücksichtigung der ordnungsgemäßen und wirtschaftlichen Verwendung der öffentlichen Mittel soll oberstes Ziel die verlässliche Erfüllung der Stiftungsaufgaben - die Förderung, Vermittlung, Erhaltung und Koordination des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes im Westharz bleiben. Es ist beabsichtigt, das laufende Geschäft der Stiftung Welterbe Harz, welches bereits weitestgehend auf die anstehende Reorganisation ausgerichtet und bereit ist, ihre bestehende Strategie, Aufgabenverteilung und Arbeitsweise, Organisationsstruktur und Prozesse umfassend überprüfen zu lassen. Ziel ist es, Wirksamkeit, Effizienz und Transparenz der operativen Arbeit zu erhöhen und die Stiftung im Einklang mit ihren Gesellschaftern zukunftsfähig aufzustellen. Darüber hinaus steht zur Diskussion, ob die bestehende Rechtsform, die geltende Satzung und der Stiftungszweck noch angemessen sind oder im Zuge der strategischen Neuausrichtung angepasst werden sollten.
