UKRI-5617 VOPPEL Refurbishment

UK Research & Innovation awarded a contract for the refurbishment of the VOPPEL laser system. The purchase covers one Pharos-4mj-20W laser with less than 250 fs pulse duration and 20W 4 mJ specifications, plus one repetition rate locking capability for synchronisation with the Vulcan 20-20 Front-End. VOPPEL is a petawatt-level laser being refurbished to be physically included in the Vulcan 20-20 project as an independent beamline, synchronised with the main 20-petawatt beamline of Vulcan 20-20 within less than the pulse duration. The buyer is UK Research & Innovation and the status is contract awarded.
