The Doctoral Education (DE) programme at TU Delft supports every PhD candidate at this university in becoming a responsible, independent researcher with a relevant set of competences for a career within and beyond academia. Anchored in a coherent competence framework, it enables candidates to shape their learning in purposeful and coherent ways that directly contribute to their growth as researchers. The programme combines shared baseline requirements with room for individual focus, ensuring both consistent quality and personalized development. This balance provides learning that is recognized and meaningful, while allowing candidates to align their development with their research, disciplinary context, and future ambitions. By integrating structure, autonomy, and guided professional development, Doctoral Education strengthens the PhD trajectory and prepares researchers for successful careers beyond their PhD.
