Description

Het lekkanaal in Nieuwegein, met daarin het Prinses Beatrixsluizencomplex, verbindt het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal (ARK) met de Lek. Deze drukke hoofdvaarweg is een belangrijke schakel in de noord-zuid vaarroute tussen Amsterdam/Noord Nederland en Rotterdam/Antwerpen. In de Nota Mobiliteit staat de ambitie om het betrouwbare reistijden te realiseren voor de binnenvaart in 2020 met prioriteit voor de hoofdverbindingsassen. De capaciteit van het Prinses Beatrixsluizencomplex wordt vergroot door de aanleg van een nieuwe sluis ten oosten van de bestaande sluizen inclusief voorhavens met remmingswerken en wachtplaatsen. Om de grotere schepen en meer schepen tegelijkertijd te kunnen schutten. Zie tekst bij de korte beschrijving.
