Met AFAS worden deze bedrijfsvoeringsprocessen binnen één omgeving en vanuit één gegevensbasis ingericht. Dit draagt bij aan standaardisatie en digitalisering van processen, eenduidige gegevensvastlegging, integrale rapportages en het beperken van afzonderlijke applicaties en maatwerkkoppelingen. Daarnaast zoeken omgevingsdiensten in toenemende mate samenwerking op het gebied van bedrijfsvoering, kennisdeling en ondersteunende processen. Harmonisatie van het applicatielandschap draagt hieraan bij. Het gebruik van dezelfde of vergelijkbare systemen vereenvoudigt het delen van kennis en werkwijzen, het afstemmen van processen en mogelijke toekomstige samenwerking.
