De gemeente Opsterland (hierna: gemeente) is voornemens de voormalige schoollocatie De Trime in Beetsterzwaag te herontwikkelen naar woningbouw. Een aantal jaren geleden is de schoolfunctie beëindigd, waardoor de locatie beschikbaar is gekomen voor herontwikkeling. De locatie De Trime is gelegen aan De Wissel en It Merkelân in Beetsterzwaag en betreft een voormalige schoollocatie binnen de bestaande dorpsstructuur. De locatie ligt in een woonomgeving met een duidelijke relatie tot de omliggende bebouwing en groenstructuren. Dit vraagt om een ontwikkeling die zorgvuldig aansluit op de schaal, identiteiten ruimtelijke kwaliteit van het dorp. De ontwikkeling maakt onderdeel uit van de gemeentelijke ambitie om binnen de dorpen ruimte te bieden aan kwalitatief goede en betaalbare woningbouw, zoals verwoord in onder meer de Omgevingsvisie gemeente Opsterland (2023), de Woonvisie gemeente Opsterland (2023) en de Welstandsnota gemeente Opsterland (2009).
