Frankwell Bridge: Design and Build Step-free Ramp incl. Flood Defence Works

Shropshire Council, working with the Environment Agency, has published a preliminary market engagement notice, not a call for competition. It concerns the supply and installation of permanent flood defences and a step-free access ramp at the northern approach to Frankwell pedestrian bridge, adjacent to the Guildhall in Shrewsbury. Two options are under consideration: integrated permanent flood defences with glazed panels, or a ramp over the existing stepped ramp. Works include foundations, drainage, surfacing, tie-ins, public realm interfaces and support with statutory approvals. Suppliers are asked which option they recommend, whether they can deliver it before the flood season from September 2027, indicative cost bands, delivery model and key risks.
