Consultation de fouilles archéologiques préventives dans le cadre de l'aménagement de la ZAC de Perrin L’intervention archéologique est localisée sur la commune des Abymes au lieu-dit Belle Plaine à Perrin, au sud-ouest de la Grande-Terre de Guadeloupe. La topographie du secteur correspond à une vaste plaine de 10-20 mètres d’altitude ponctuée de quelques petits mornes isolés. La plaine des Abymes est à vocation agricole, à dominante cannière. Le projet de construction de 225 logements par la SEMSAMAR a provoqué la réalisation d’un diagnostic. Des occupations précolombiennes sont connues dans le secteur dont un site néoindien situé à proximité de l’actuel projet d’aménagement et qui a fait l’objet d’une fouille archéologique préventive en 2013 (site patriarche n° 97 105 0105). Concernant l’époque coloniale, l’installation des premières habitations remonte au premier quart du XVIIIe siècle : le plan d’arpentage établi par Amaudric de Sainte Maure en 1732 atteste qu’à l’exception du secteur des Grands-Fonds, la majeure partie des terres est déjà concédée à des particuliers pour l’installation d’exploitations agro-manufacturières (réf. : ANOM, DFC Guadeloupe, c. 26, f°69).
