Description

Das Seewasserforschungsinstitut in Kastanienbaum geht auf das 1916 gegründete "hydrobiologische Laboratorium" der Naturforschenden Gesellschaft Luzern zurück. Dieses wurde 1960 durch die Eawag übernommen und laufend modernisiert. Aus dem kleinen Labor ist ein Kompetenzzentrum für Ökologie, Evolution und Biogeochemie mit Forschenden aus der ganzen Welt geworden. Die Eawag gehört zum ETH-Bereich und ist eine selbstständige Forschungsinstitution mit Hauptsitz in Dübendorf. Der Standort in Kastanienbaum soll mit einem Neubau erweitert werden. Gleichzeitig sollen mit dem Neubau auch betriebliche Abläufe auf dem Gesamtareal optimiert und Flächendefizite des Forschungsstandorts ausgeglichen werden. Die bestehende, terrassierte Anlage wird bergseitig mit einem schmalen, liegenden Baukörper erweitert. Die Gestaltung des Neubaus löst sich von der kubischen Betonarchitektur des Laborbaus und orientiert sich mit dem geneigten Dach und der Holzverkleidung an ruralen Bauformen in der Umgebung. Vom See aus betrachtet, dominiert weiterhin der bestehende Laborbau. Der Neubau wird zur Landschaft gehörend wahrgenommen.
