Die BAW beabsichtigt, das Projektions- und Raumsteuerungssystem im „Visualisierungs- und Informationszentrum“ (PRS) in Halle IV der BAW in Karlsruhe nach fast 10 Betriebsjahren auf den neuesten technischen Stand zu bringen und die bestehenden medientechnischen Komponenten zu erneuern. Im Bereich der Mediensteuerung soll eine intuitive Nutzbarkeit der Anlage für definierte Standardanforderungen geschaffen werden und darüber hinaus auch spezielle Nutzungsanforderungen abgebildet werden können. Das derzeit bei der BAW in Halle IV vorhandene PRS besteht aus verschiedenen Komponenten aus den Bereichen Audio und Video sowie Informationstechnik. Eine Besonderheit des PRS ist der Einsatz einer etwa 6,5 x 2,5 m großen Rückprojektionsfläche. Diese soll durch eine ähnlich große LED-Wand ersetzt werden. Das PRS wird im Rahmen von Veranstaltungen mit 10 bis 199 Teilnehmern von allen Abteilungen der BAW genutzt. Dabei handelt es sich vor allem um folgende Veranstaltungsarten: einfache Vortragsveranstaltungen; mehrtägige Kolloquien bzw. Konferenzen; Mitarbeiterversammlungen, Hybride Veranstaltungen. Neben der Standardsituation "Vortrag" kommen dabei auch besondere Nutzungsarten zum Einsatz: großflächige Darstellung von Abbildungen oder Bildsequenzen aus der Anwendung von numerischen und physikalischen Modelluntersuchungen in der BAW; Realisierung von In-house Streaming von Bild und Ton über einen oder mehrere Kanäle. Die Anlage muss sowohl von BAW eigenem Personal als auch von externen Dozenten bedient werden können. Bei den genannten Veranstaltungen dient die Halle IV auch als Repräsentationsraum für die BAW.
