Der Bauherr, die Kreisverwaltung Cochem- Zell, entschied sich Ende 2021 für einen Neubau der Sporthalle an derselben Stelle. Die alte Sporthalle musste für den Neubau abgebrochen werden. Der Gebäudekomplex des Martin-von-Cochem-Gymnasiums liegt zwischen der „Schlossstraße" und der Straße „Am Tummelchen", über die die Schule erreichbar ist, und besteht aus mehreren Gebäudeteilen.
