As part of the electrification of the AKN line A1, the future S-Bahn line S5 between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Kaltenkirchen, the existing stabling facility at Ulzburg Süd is to be comprehensively modernised and fully electrified. The works include the removal and reconstruction of track and points installations, the construction of train formation, stabling and interior cleaning facilities, and extensive civil engineering works. The scope also covers utility and media infrastructure for electricity, water and wastewater, pump stations, shafts, tanks and drainage systems, overhead line foundations, service roads, platform bases and operational areas. Works are carried out in stages under continuing rail operations, including cable pulling and connection works, supply installations and fencing of the entire site.
