Summary

Machine-generated summary

The project delivers technical assistance for climate change adaptation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressing river floods and torrential floods separately. For river floods, the work includes renewing the Hydrological Information System for the main sub-basins with flood events from 2010 onwards, analysing the impact of existing reservoirs on the water regime with proposals for managing high-water waves and increasing water retention in dry periods, preparing guidelines for flood protection of agricultural land, and drafting the manual 'Living with Floods' on best practices in flood risk management. For torrential floods, it covers a cadastre of torrential basins with a sensitivity model based on existing erosion maps, plus a study on increasing basin water retention capacity, including a catalogue of applicable interventions.

Description

This project foresees implementation of activities focused on climate adaptation measures addressing both, river and torrential floods separately, taking into account their distinct characteristics and specificities, as outlined below: River Floods 1. Renewal of the Hydrological Information System (HIS) for the main sub-basins in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including flood events from 2010 to the present. 2. Analysis of the impact of existing reservoirs on the water regime, with proposals for improving the management of high-water waves and enhancing water retention during dry periods. 3. Development of guidelines for flood protection of agricultural land. 4. Preparation of the manual “Living with Floods”, providing an overview of necessary measures and best practices for flood risk management. Torrential Floods 1. Development of a cadastre of torrential basins, including a sensitivity model based on existing erosion maps. 2. Preparation of a study on increasing basin water retention capacity through measures aimed at reducing runoff and sediment transport, accompanied by a catalogue of applicable interventions.
