Work-related cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in figures - Exploratory research

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) is planning to launch a call for tender for an overview and analysis of quantitative data available in the EU and Member States on the types, extent and causes of work-related cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) as well as on sectors, occupations and worker groups at risk. The main objectives of this project are: • To provide a mapping, description and critical assessment of existing sources of quantitative data on the types, extent and causes of work-related CVDs (including recognised occupational ones) and occupational accidents related to CVDs in the EU and its Member States. The data sources identified should also provide information on sectors, occupations and worker groups at risk. Examples of such as data sources include monitoring and recording schemes and systems, statistics, surveys and estimates. The mapping should include data sources from outside the OSH discipline as relevant (e.g. public health, environmental health). • To provide a picture of the prevalence and costs of work-related CVDs (including recognised occupational ones) and occupational accidents related to CVDs, at the EU and Member State levels. • To improve understanding of underlying causes, exposures and risks of work-related CVDs (including recognised occupational ones) as well as of the sectors, occupations and worker groups at risk, through the analysis of data available from the data sources identified. • To identify limitations, drivers, gaps and needs of the data sources available to encourage the development of data collection and monitoring systems allowing to have a comprehensive picture of work-related CVDs (including recognised occupational ones) and occupational accidents related to CVDs in the EU and in the Member States. The overall objective of the project is to increase visibility of this group of work-related diseases to support the development of effective data collection and monitoring schemes providing the data necessary to design targeted, evidence-based policy-making and prevention of work-related CVDs (including recognised occupational ones) and occupational accidents related to these in the EU. The information and case examples on regulation, policies, strategies, initiatives and programmes will be collected through desk and fieldwork research. The expected deliverables are: • A final report of approximately 70 pages or 77,000 words maximum (excluding the executive summary, references and annexes). • A stand-alone executive summary (4 pages maximum) based on the content of the final report. • Two policy briefs of maximum 4-5 pages. • A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the main issues and recommendations. This should be suitable for a non-technical audience. The PowerPoint slides will be drafted using good presentational practice, keeping text to the headlines on the slides and putting further detail in speaker’s notes. The presentation should have a maximum of 15 slides and will be prepared using the template and guidelines for accessible PowerPoint presentations provided by the contracting authority to the winning tenderer once the contract has been awarded. The maximum total budget available for the contract to be awarded is EUR 55,000 (excluding VAT). It is possible to express interest as an individual organisation or a consortium. However please note that invited candidates can submit a joint tender with other economic operators only if they have expressed interest in the planned procedure as a consortium.
