Conversion and extension of the kindergarten in Asparn an der Zaya

The municipality of Asparn an der Zaya plans to extend the existing kindergarten. The building constructed around 1980 will be given an additional storey and supplemented by a two-storey extension to the north. The structure will be clad in a thermally effective envelope of suspended prefabricated timber elements. A new entrance will be created between the existing building and the new extension, sheltered by a generous canopy. The extension uses solid timber elements for walls, ceilings and roofs, allowing rapid prefabricated, cost-efficient and ecological construction, with visible naturally oiled interior surfaces, a pre-greyed timber facade, wood fibre, hemp and mineral wool insulation, mechanical shading louvres, a new pellet heating system with underfloor heating and a PV system on the flat roof.
