A Central Hidroelétrica da Serra de Água está atualmente a ser objeto de uma remodelação, ao nível das infraestruturas das câmaras de acumulação e de carga (zona de armazenamento exterior), da conduta forçada e do edifício da central hidroelétrica. Esta remodelação decorre da necessidade de substituir os ativos existentes que se encontravam em fim de vida útil, tendo-se aproveitado a oportunidade para dotar a instalação de novas funcionalidades de apoio ao sistema elétrico, bem como para aumentar a potência instalada para cerca de 10,8 MW.
