Om een breder inzetbaar, ‘veiliger’ alternatief voor bekalking als verzuringsbestrijdingsmaatregel te vinden, is de laatste jaren zowel binnen als buiten OBN veel onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de inzet van verschillende soorten steenmeel (Weijters et al., 2018, de Vries et al., 2019, van Diggelen et al., 2019, Vogels et al., 2019, Bobbink et al., 2020, Verbaarschot et al., 2020, Verbaarschot et al., 2021, Weijters et al., 2023, Sitters et al., 2024, Van Der Bauwhede et al., 2024). Kennis over de effectiviteit, bruikbaarheid en toepasbaarheid van bodembufferstoffen (kalk en steenmeel) in droge en vochtige heide, heischrale graslanden en bossen op zandgronden is daarmee sterk toegenomen. De bruikbaarheid als herstelmaatregel van bodemverzuring is in deze onderzoeken aangetoond, en op basis van het doel en mate van aantasting kan met die nieuwe kennis beter gedifferentieerd worden in de keuze voor het materiaal dat gebruikt wordt en de dosering ervan. Voor het onderzoek is maximaal €87.500 incl. btw (€72.314,05 excl. btw) beschikbaar.
