Het KMI beschikt over een continue tijdreeks van ozonsondemetingen sinds 1969, die van onschatbare waarde is voor het klimaatonderzoek en de monitoring van de ozonlaag in het kader van het VN-Montrealprotocol. Daarnaast leveren deze peilingen essentiële parameters (zoals de effectieve temperatuur voor ozonabsorptie) voor de berekening en voorspelling van de UV-index ten behoeve van de bevolking. Het KMI fungeert tevens als het officiële Quality Assurance/Science Activity Centre (QA/SAC) voor ozonsondes binnen de Wereld Meteorologische Organisatie (WMO). De toekomstige opdracht voor de levering van de meetapparatuur (ca. 150 peilingen per jaar) is onderverdeeld in twee percelen: - Perceel 1 - Ozonsondes: De aankoop van de specifieke ozonsondes. - Perceel 2 - Radiosondes en interfaces: De aankoop van de bijbehorende radiosondes en de noodzakelijke interfaces voor de data-overdracht.
