Description

The University of Groningen (UG) is a leader in advanced biomedical research, with a strong focus on spatially resolved molecular analysis of human and animal tissues, cultured cells, and diverse biomaterials. A key component of this research is the ability to map the distribution of endogenous and exogenous biomolecules-including proteins, peptides, lipids, metabolites, glycans, and drugs-with high spatial resolution and molecular specificity. To support and expand this capability, UG seeks to acquire a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) platform. This instrument must enable label-free, high-resolution spatial mapping of a broad range of biomolecular species with minimal sample preparation. Integration of advanced ionization strategies, such as laser desorption/ionization and post-ionization technologies, is essential to ensure high sensitivity, particularly for low-abundance or poorly ionizing analytes.
